A private nature reserve in the Eilandspolder

A miniature private nature reserve in the Eilandspolder in the province of Noord-Holland is, paradoxically, under threat from provincial meadow bird conservation regulations, which demand that all tall vegetation be removed.

Together with the owners, we carried out an inventory of the invertebrate animals and discovered that c. 20% of the species would disappear if the woody vegetation were removed. Click here for the final report (PDF).
